Description
Ilford FP4 is an exceptionally fine grain, medium speed black and white film ideal for outdoor photography. Type – 517 was the designation given to 400ft bulk reels intended for cine use which Ilford used to manufacture. We have been fortunate enough to come into possession of a large quantity of this film, which we have re spooled for use in 35mm still cameras. Our aim is simple, to provide a usable film to keep film alive at a low cost.
From our tests the film performs well both at ISO 50, 100, and can even be pushed to 200! giving it the same versatility of the modern FP4 Plus while retaining relatively low grain for high resolving power. We recommend home developing and using the development times provided as this is a different base emulsion to the current range of FP4 Plus and labs will not be familiar with this film. In addition to this we have noticed that a small quantity of this film has a slight shine to the base layer. This can result in lines appearing when underexposing the film – 1 1/2 stops or more.
